Go West…

The more I think about it, the fewer people I know who were born and raised in Vancouver. This is in my mind tonight simply because my brother and his girlfriend today made the move, following first my sister, my mother, and then myself over the past 10 years or so. I know a lot of former-somewhere-elsers (both from other Provinces and countries) than I do locals, and I find that very interesting.

I’m one of them, of course. I know what made me move here – mountains, mostly, and a feeling that I could find adventure here. The first time I came out here to visit I swore in the back of my mind that I would move here. It’s just that beautiful of a place.

I wonder where all the locals are, though? Do they feel outnumbered by the transplants? Well, do you locals?

And now I have a Pet Shop Boys song in my head.

The number of migrants to Vancouver I have met definitely outnumbers natives to this province. It has to do with thee being so many people moving here and, in part, I believe, to being a migrant myself. =)

    Surrey? Burnaby?

Not Burnaby, that’s for sure. I think they all either move to White Rock or into the interior. Kelowna has lots of ex-Vancouverites. Maybe the island?
