Best headline ever, creepiest story ever

From the land of the best headline ever the CBC’s article “B.C. Utah discuss polygamy” is a clear instant classic. Of course when we’re talking about polygamy it’s never as sexy as it seems in The Arabian Knights. No instead of harems of beautiful exotic women you get inbreeding and weird religion.

Sadly this again is the weird inbreeding child abusing kind, and not some kind of state on provice action where B.C. and Utah get it on while Alberta watches.

Utah has prosecuted five polygamists for a variety of crimes, including sexual misconduct and child abuse. It has also set aside money to help create a safety net for women who want to leave polygamous communes.

Now what does this have to do with B.C.?

The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a U.S.-based group which believes men should have multiple wives as young as 13, set up Bountiful in 1947. About 1,000 people now live there.

Damn, 1947? Sneaky polygamists, we were so tired from fighting the Nazis that we totally let the creepy Utah types slip across our borders and start marrying not only one cousin, but all their cousins. Now next time we start wagging our fingers with front page stories in the Province about arranged marriages in some Asian cultures, let’s first look at the bad touching that’s going on up north.
