Port Moody Watches the Amazing Race
Recently my commercial has been on TV quite a few times. Yes, to everyone who wondered, I am that twit on the train who says “Port Moody watches the Amazing Race!” I’ve lost track of how many acquaintances have phoned me to verify if that indeed was me. This morning my boss’ wife phoned to check and a friend from Victoria, the Mugwhump, saw me too.
I got my fifteen minutes’ of province-wide fame because of a wrong turn. At my little museum, we have a zero-budget in advertising, so when I saw the CTV van pull up, I thought we hit the jackpot. No, it turned out, they were going to city hall instead.
“But our museum is so photogenic,” I pleaded.
The film crew’s arms twisted, they relented. I ran inside to update my make-up. The only problem was that I wore my “Princess” shirt. Damn, now everyone will think I am high maintenance, I thought. Oh well, a Hilton reputation is the price of fame.
First, they had me say “Port Moody watches CTV,” which seems to have never made it on the air.
Next they moved me from the train station platform to our Venosta railcar. They gave me a list of shows from which I could choose. “How about Canadian Idol?” asked the head lady.
“No…maybe Amazing Race,” I said, picking the show I’d watched at least a few times.
“Are you sure you don’t want Canadian Idol?” she tried again.
“Um, no.”
Considering how many takes I had to go through (four both times), I was certain my television career was over. How nice to know I didn’t suck that badly. Hmm, on second thought, maybe I have a lot more to learn from that Hilton girl.

Was yesterday the finale for Amazing Race? Does that mean there is not Amazing Race to tune into next week to catch this commercial of a Metroblogger? I’ll keep my ears perked for “Port Moody watches….” in any case. =) (You should have told us sooner. =) )
From what people have told me, the commercial comes on at all times. But, as you say, if there is no more Amazing Race, they won’t need to air me anymore. Dang.
I completely forget about the commercial except right after it’s been aired and everyone asks me if that was me…It’s been on tv three or four times.
