Best friends for reals?
I haven’t posted much because I was in Seattle [jks] the last few days and so it was hard to write about Vancouver from there. However it got me to thinking, Seattle is a bit like Vancouver. Okay it’s a lot like Vancouver in a lot of ways, in fact Seattle is probably more like Vancouver than any other city I can think of.
Certainly it’s more like us than Toronto or Montreal are.
I was going to do a Seattle versus Vancouver showdown post, comparing the two cities and pitting them in sudden death battle, but I decided against it because I’m feeling sleepy and not at all argumentative today. So let’s just say, “Seattle you’re alright by me.”
I know Vancouver has sister cities, but I totally think we should be Seattle’s best friends for reals. I mean Guangzhou China? That’s our sister city? Could we pick a city with a name that doesn’t sound like somewhere that Indian Jones has to go to stop Nazis stealing ancient magical treasures? How about one with an Urban Outfitters that we can drive to, and one with a tiny little CN Tower of its own [mbs] and a cute little fish throwing tourist trap (see picture of Lew Zealand the fish throwing Muppet / Pike Place Market employee).
So what do you say Seattle? Do you wanna come over and play with our GI Joes? We totally have the Joe base.

we should totally be pinkie friends! I love Vancouver, but really, I only get to go up there when Holly Cole sings. The next time I visit, I’ll have to bring my Barbies over.
Oh yeah, totally. I’m so coming down for the Belle & New Sebastian Pornographers show.
I always wondered where they got sister cities from… is there supposed to be a lot of similarities? I’ve been to Guangzhou and it’s a world different from here, trust me. Going to Seattle doesn’t feel altogether that different from being in Vancouver except for the shopping =D (add Sephora, Anthropologie, Target, Macy’s, Nordstrom’s to that list and there is so much more). Vancouver’s prettier though, and it’s not just because I went to Seattle on two separate gray days.
Oh we’re definitly the prettier sister, no doubt. But do we have a romantic Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan movie? Nope.
