The Donair Naming Game

Whether you call them a donair, shawarma, gyros, pita, or something else, there’s never any lack of places that sell them on the streets of Vancouver. Tonight, when taking a walk after work, I started a mental inventory of all the ones I passed or knew about:

Falafel House
Falafel Town
Falafel Hut
Falafel King
Falafel Oasis
Donair House
Donair Town
Donair Village
Donair Stop
Donair Delight
Donair *and* Falafel King
Pita Wrap
Pita Pit
Pita Pocket
Mediterranean King
Mediterranean House

Are there any combinations I’m forgetting? It’s amazing how these guys work. It’s like the domain name scramble of the ethnic food world.

Is “Donair Oasis” taken yet? No? I’d better snatch that one up while I’ve got the chance then.

Just in case I ever need to open up a Mediterranean fast food shop, of course. You never know.

Update: Darren at Spaceship asked in the comments if any of them are any good. I’ve tried donair places all over downtown, and in a handful of other areas in the city, and my favourite still remains the Falafel House at 902 Granville at Smithe, just south of the Starbucks. Try one of their shawarma sandwiches. I’ve had two different out-of-town visitors declare this place the highlight of their Vancouver food experiences.

    How about:

    Destination Donair
    Pita Pocket Pool
    Donair Drama
    Donair versus Pita verus Ninja

Ah, but are any of them any good? I continue my search for the perfect Donair in and around Vancouver.

So far the best has to be Canada Donair on 3rd & lonsdale in North Van. Any other recommendations?
