Well I think we’ve won now

After destroying the Italian Womens Olympic Hockey team by a score of 16-0 Canada is currently running up the score against the Russian women. At the end of the second period it is 9-0 for our girls in red and white. There is something to be said for winning by large margins, the important home ice advantage of the last shift change in the gold medal round against the Americans, but also something to be said for not embarrassing other teams.

If you’re not at at television then follow all the post-Cold War hockey action at the CBC’s Olympic Hockey blog where you can read the current game [cbc].

Oh, please. Should racers go slower to let the others catch up? Hockey is not a tea party.

The women’s team was not rude, crude or malicious. They were simply playing their best. That’s what the games are about. I’d much rather see one team score 16 points by going full out than see them score 10 points and fail to express their true potential.

Now, if they were antagonizing or fighting the other team, I’d be on your side, Jeff, but come on — winning is what you do in sports.

You, there’s lots of arguments about giving your best at the olympics cause that’s what you’re supposed to do there. And in not slacking off against another team because that shows discrespect but i don’t know about those things.

i just like the argument that at the end, your score differential can impact things like whether or not you get home ice. they’ve made the score important, why shouldn’t we excel.
