Todd “Mr. Slappy” Bertuzzi versus Steve Moore and Steve Moore’s parents in court
If you thought two times through the court for Todd Bertuzzi’s punch in the face of the Colorado Avalanche’s [mbd] Steve Moore was enough you’d be wrong. After failing in a civil suit in Colorado Moore and his parents have all launched suits against Bertuzzi, the Canucks, Orca Bay Ltd. partnership, Orca Bay Hockey Inc. and puppy dogs [cbc].
Now let’s be honest, Bertuzzi stepped over the line, he screwed up and deserved every minute of his suspension. I can also understand how Moore would be upset seeing that two years later he still has not played another game in the NHL while Bertuzzi is back in the league and now at the Olympics.
However it’s really hard to tie Moore’s injury to Bertuzzi’s punch, rather than say the dog pile of his own teammates that followed. Also Moore wasn’t exactly Gretzky, he played the rough side of the game and it’s really hard to suddenly cry dirty when you’re not the cleanest player yourself.
Worse Moore’s parent’s lawsuit is complete crap. They’re suing because seeing their son get hit in the face on television upset them. How about all of the other fights Moore was in, why aren’t they suing those players? Or the Avalanche for putting Moore in a role where he’s going to get hit? Or themselves for letting Moore play a physical game?
His parents, Jack and Anna, who were watching on television when Bertuzzi blindsided Moore, are suing for $1.5 million “for negligent infliction of nervous shock and mental distress.”
The lawsuit claimed that “Anna was screaming and crying hysterically. Jack was utterly frozen in shock…”
If I sued everytime I was hysterical or frozen in shock I’d own NBC because ER is so very gripping. So very gripping.

I hate Steve “whine and sue some” Moore. total puss. Should have addressed the issue before Bertuzzi made him a veggie…
