The Golden Girls

Not to be one to pass up a reference to Bea Arthur, I had to take a moment to point out the fact that the Canadian Women have won the gold medal in the Winter Olympics. As dominating as the men’s team, full of NHL superstars, has been since they won gold in the last games, it’s the women who have been the true hockey powerhouse. While the men have been struggling with so-called weaker teams like Switzerland, the women dominated all the way from the first face off of the tournament to the final siren.

The Swedish team, whom the Canadians beat 4-1 to win the gold, picked up silver after their amazing upset of the American women’s team [cbc]. The Americans picked up the Bronze.

Now if the boys can just start playing the sort of hockey we all know they can and actually score a few goals we’d be golden [cbc]. Maybe we need another speach from Gretzky, or Phil Esposito.
