The Crime Lab, originally uploaded by Jeffery Simpson.

My old favorite watering hole, the Crime Lab, was torn down to make room for apartments [mbv] and since then I’ve been looking for a new relaxing place to enjoy a drink in the Coal Harbour region.

I’m looking for something low key, and not nightclub like. I’ve had some early success with The Mill along the water front but I’m still open to suggestions.

I like Carderos, though it’s usually really busy. Other than that, the Seaside lounge thingie at the Westin is cozy and usually pretty low-key.

Carderos scares me because it’s got valet parking and that just seems a bit too intense, even though I can walk there from my apartment. Also isn’t it more a resturant?

I might try the Seaside though. That sounds like an idea.

Carderos looks scary from the outside, but they’re pretty much another Earl’s. Lounge in the front, restaurant in the back, drinks, appies, meals at the expected price points.

Well then I’ll add that to my list of places, and give it a shot. Not that it was the Earls-ish-ness of it that sold me, just the thought that it might not be the super-swanky place that a seaside local and valet parking would make it out to be.
