Canucks 2 – Flames 1

Nice to see that the Canucks were able to pull one out in Calgary last night after the Olympic break. While they didn’t play great, it was a good enough job to get it done, and they managed to pull themselves into a first place tie with Calgary in the Northwest Division.

Next up is Nashville and then Chicago, and these should be considered ‘must wins’ if they are going to start picking up momentum for the post season – Nashville is one of the better teams in the league, and the Blackhawks should not pose a problem. But the’ve got to play focused for the remaining 24 games in order to get into the playoffs and avoid a spin-out in the first round.

It’ll be interesting to see what they do before the trade deadline a week from tomorrow. If they’re going to go anywhere in the playoffs, they need a playoff goaltender. Not that Auld hasn’t done a pretty good job considering his experience before this year, but he’s really not who they want to be leading them into the playoffs.

Especially seeing as how they make the finals every 12 seasons. 1982 was 12 years after they joined the league. Twelve years later in 1994. Well boys, its 12 seasons later….
