Kid’s party leads to $70,000 of damage

Courtesy of the Vancouver Sun comes the story of a 13 year old girl out in Ladner, who was staying at her mother’s while her father was out of town. Along the way she told her mother she was spending the night at a friend’s, but found her way back to her father’s where a 200-“guest” party commenced. When the cops finally showed up, they sealed the house and EMS carted the unconscious girl off to the hospital with a case of alcohol poisoning.

What’s amazing was that this didn’t turn into the usual ‘house wrecker’ that you hear about on the news. At least, not yet. Apparently the cops went back a couple of hours later to find that someone had broken into the house and completely trashed anything of value. Then the car was stolen and ditched. Total estimate of the damage: 70 grand. Explain that one to the old man when he gets home.

The excuse was the standard, “But it was only supposed to be a few people,”. Having been to a few parties like this back in high school (admittedly it was 20 years ago), I cannot remember one that ever got out of hand like the ones you hear about now.

Not sure if I’m just naive, or if things were actually different back then.

Front page news too, so it must have been a slow news day.
