Dear Emily and Cohorts
Once upon a time in Vancouver there was an excellent email list for artists called Dear Emily. Run out of the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Dear Emily answered questions such as Where do you get free skeleton leaves in Vancouver? and What kind of plexiglass is best for an outdoor installation piece?
Then, about two years ago, the college disabled this brilliant list. It might come back or it might not, they said. Eventually it came back, in a crippled, unfun form. Dear Emily is now a discussion forum, which, while nice for not getting your inbox clogged, makes it harder to follow discussions.
It got me curious about the other Vancouver-related mailing lists and forums out there. You know, if you actually want to receive their ads.
Here’s my quickie resource list:
- The Cue Up Forum: “for video producers and media artists”
- Tri-Cities Freecycle: connecting people who are throwing away unwanted items with others seeking the same items (many other BC freecycle mailing lists here)
- The Port Moody Station Museum monthly event mailing list: sent out circa the first of every month
- The Vancouver Maritime Museum mailing list
- The Arts Club Theatre Company mailing list
- Pacific Cinematheque mailing list
There are probably hundreds more. Does anyone have any they’d like to add?

I know Blim Arts Society has a weekly mailing list on their page
