Portraits at a Vandigicam Meetup

I attended a particularly fun Vandigicam event today on Granville island. Vandigicam is a group that started on Flickr and Meetup last year. It’s for photo enthusiasts, regardless of their level of skill or what equipment they have. Let me show you a shot from today, then I’ll explain today’s gathering.

If I had to estimate, I’d say about 25 people showed up at Granville Island for the fun. We all had a chance to practice taking portrait shots by pairing up based on names drawn from a hat. I got partnered with a good range of people — some who’d never attended a flickr / vandigicam / meetup before, and others who were practically ancient at it.

There was a cameraman from CBC there as well; our (I say our, but I’m hardly a central figure) little group might get some “face time”, too!

Check out photos of the event here, and consider showing up for the next outing. The more, the merrier.

You know, I joined the Vandigicam Flickr group ages ago with the intention of coming along on some of the photo walks and meetings, and have never made it out. The portrait session looks like it was really great. I love how the dozens of portraits of everyone by everyone have the effect of a giant photographic group hug (with only the positive connotations of that — no KumBahYa singing, etc).
