After the cherry blossoms
So, VCBF month is officially over and this is my final tally:
Cherry blossom viewings attended: 0
Bento boxes consumed: 0
Visits to super awesome blossoms at Burrard Station: 0
Visits to nearly awesome blossoms at UBC/QE Park/Stanley Park: 0
Submissions to photo contest for JAL trip to Japan: 0 =(
Visits to City Hall blossoms: 2 (such a disappointment - nothing can lighten that neo-gothic structure)
Visits/appreciation rest stops at the parkette on the SE corner of Heather & 10th Avenue: 31
I think the Burrard blossoms get such a good rap by being (1) downtown and (2) in a high-traffic area. Personally, I was enamoured enough with the clustered offering in the parkette tucked between grubby hospital buildings. It became a daily ritual to bask in Prunus X yedonesis, blossom-filtered light. There you go, that’s me being sentimental.

The site says the photography competition deadline has been extended till April 10th. It’s not too late!!!
The ones on Burrard are nice, but it’s such a crowded place. And the time-honoured “O-Hanami” ritual of public intoxication and terrible karaoke is frowned upon there.
So it is extended. Well, I guess my submission will be the above picture. =P I’ll sift through my photos but seem to have confined my efforts to the parkette with a Cancer Agency building as a backdrop….
