New ads for Metroblogging

If you’re interested in how sites like Metroblogging make money, and in the subject of ads on the internet, then you might find it interesting that Metroblogging just signed with Federated Media [fm] who handle ads for sites like Digg.com [digg], BoingBoing.net [bb] and Fark [fak].

The news release can be found here [pr].

If you’re not particularly interested in these sorts of things then… ummm… how about them Canucks? Oh, right. Sorry.

[Credit union spokesperson style outraged rant:]

“Multi-author blog or news collector sites partner with professional ad-handling companies. They put an ugly and distracting column of ad banners down the side of every page. That’s how THEY make money. But how do YOU make money? After all, YOU write the content for THEM. Do THEY pass the revenue from those ads to YOU? *Is that FAIR?* Blog authors, call us now: Web 2.0 Direct!–and let YOUR writing earn YOU the ad money you deserve.”

The last time I saw an advertisement that used the shtick of an outraged spokesperson ranting at and haranguing the tv viewer was years and years ago: Tom Vu Seminars, a late night infomercial. Does it work for credit unions too? I find their ads absurd and hilarious. You gave me a great opening to parody them, though, so thanks.

Where can I learn more about this Ad 2.0 direct? Er, not that I am in any way dissatisfied with our current overlord, Sean. May your reign be long and prosperous.
