Directions

Like many other Vancouverites I am able to give directions to the steam clock from even the most obscure places in the city. Though I’m often lost myself, I have some sort of innate sixth sense that enables me to always know which direction the aquarium is, or Stanley Park, or Granville Island. At any given time I probably know the distance between me and the closest skytrain station, in both metres and blocks.

I keep a little list of answers to frequently asked questions in my head because I’m so used to having the same ones repeated over and over. I’m so accustomed to hearing the standard set of tourist questions that once in a while I get one that is different and catches me off guard.

Today this happened to me not once, but twice. Both were restaurant recommendations, the first for a vegan restaurant and the second for a place that sells good burgers, both within walking distance of Robson Square. I was completely at a loss.

I’m sure that they exist. Can anyone tell me where they’re hiding?

I’m constantly giving recommendations and directions at my job too. For burgers, you should have sent them over to Davie St to hit up Vera’s or Hamburger Mary’s. For vegan, all I can think of is the ever-present sushi, or maybe one of the falafel huts?

    Welcome fellow newbie metblogger!
I think there were some burger-related posts around here somewhere, although I’m unsure of their proximity to Robson Square.

Tourist directions are usually manageable, as for driving directions around here… when I first moved downtown from the burbs the ‘named’ streets totally threw me off.

I came from a city where 12345 100th street could logically be located at the intersection of 123rd and 100th street. Although NB, when you’re out there the street numbers get lower as you approach the border but in Vancouver, they get lower as you get closer to the water/mountains to the north. Don’t even get me started on A/B streets, Cul-de-Sacs and Maple Place / Crescent / Blvd / Grove / Manor / Drive err streets ack!

    I completely forgot about Vera’s!
