Meetup July 18th: Stanley Park

It’s time for Metroblogging Vancouver’s ever-popular sorta-monthly meetup. This time, instead of heading out to one of those snooty places where you have to buy food, we’re going to have a potluck picnic in the park.

This will be a great chance to meet the roughly 130 new authors just added to the list of posters, so if you only attend one meetup this year, make it this one.

All details after the jump.

When: Tuesday, July 18th, 7:30 pm. I’ll try to be there somewhere around 7:15.

Where: Third Beach, Stanley Park. I’ll hang a sign somewhere that says something like “Metroblogging Vancouver” or “Vancouver Metblog” or some such.

What do we eat: potluck. So bring a dish. Mention roughly the kind of dish you’re bringing in the comments (salad, appetizer, main, dessert, food-you-dare-people-to-eat, etc.) for one of those nice, internetty distributed-organization arrangements that are supposed to work out so well. As a concession to Matt and any others who are dangerous in a kitchen, you will not be scorned or shunned for stopping at the deli counter on the way from work. In fact, I’ll be rather disappointed if someone doesn’t bring along an $8 cooked chicken from the supermarket, as those things are a tasty deal.

Other: I will offer a very small prize for “best name tag”, an attempt to bribe you into wearing a name tag so I can pretend I remember your name. Travis has promised to bring his bocce set, because bocce is the new World of Warcraft (which, I am reliably informed, is the new golf; I wouldn’t know, I race bicycles instead of either of those).

In case of rain, we will seek shelter nearby. In case of no shelter, the plan is to get very wet. No, we’ll probably regroup at a nearby dry location, possibly a restaurant; email me if you want a contact phone number to call in case of problems.

Suggestions, RSVPs, and potluck dish declarations to the comments as usual.

Potluck, bocce, and Stanley Park. This may be the least trendy meetup ever.

I can also bring a BBQ. I’m accessory guy, it seems.

Too bad this won’t arrive in time…otherwise it’d be the ultimate geek name tag. Extra geekpoints for scrolling your blog url on it

I’m going to hit an Asian “deli” and try to bring spring rolls cause everyone loves spring rolls and they come in styrofoam containers that could pass for something that came out of my house, I could claim I made them! …I think I was supposed to keep this scheme to myself. Doh!

I guess I should chime in here and mention that I’m bringing an Indonesian (Afghani?) brown rice dish. It will be nice, and should cover the essential starch group.

I’m coming with my sister. We’ll bring some casserole/pasta/risotto-type dish and a spread. All home-cooked and GOOD FOR YOU!

I’m coming and bringing one friend. I haven’t yet decided on my food item…
