I’ve returned from Kelowna where I spent my Tuesday - Thursday weekend in the sun and at the lake. I grew up in Kelowna, before moving to Vancouver over a year ago, and it was odd to be back. When we ended up in the parking lot of the local mini-golf course drinking beer before playing our 18 holes it was like I had been transported back to high school.

Kelowna fills up to the limit during the August long weekend, and as we were leaving to return to Vancouver already the bridge was backed up nearly to Westbank. With ads for Kamloops Tourism running at most of the Skytrain stations what is Vancouver’s favorite long weekend getaways?

In Toronto [mbt] they have a long established cottage country getaway culture [cs], but what’s that translate into for Vancouver? Is it Kelowna, Kamloops and Penticton or somewhere on the island? Where do you go?
