Little League is a Big Deal
Whalley Little League [WLL] is celebrating 50 years of baseball in Surrey this year and is currently hosting The Canadian Major Little League Championships, which began August 5th [CMLLC]
For ten days the host Whalley team will compete with the top five teams from across the country for the right to represent Canada at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. The Whalley team is in the unique position of coming into the 2006 Championships as not only the host team but as the defending Canadian Champs.

British Columbia Champions - Coquitlam Coquitlam LL
Maritime Provinces Champions - Glace Bay (Nova Scotia) - Glace Bay LL
Ontario Champions - Nepean East - Nepean LL
Quebec Champions - Montreal - Notre-Dame-de-Grace Minor Baseball League LL
Prairie Provinces Champions - Saskatoon (Saskatchewan) - Saskatoon Riverside Kiwanis LL
Host League - Surrey (British Columbia) - Whalley LL

The history of Whalley Little League is pretty impressive, [surrey.ca] they’ve represented Canada in the Little League World Series in 1973, 1978, 1997 and 2005.
For living in such a hockey-oriented metropolis, sometimes you need not look any further than that diamond down the street to find some local sports history, heroes, and stars of the future.
