Mexican Food in Vancouver

ponchos.jpgQuick little inquiry - where can we find great Mexican food in Vancouver? We’ve only found & tried Las Margaritas (in Kits) and Ponchos (in the West End) which is the fave so far - mostly because of the ‘flaming Poncho’ (pictured here, to the right)

We also already know that the best place to find a margarita in this town is our house (and trust me, we’ve looked far and wide)

So, what are the other options? I know there’s also Pepitos on Burrard so we’ve added that to our list, anything else?

    Two recommendations:
First, Lolita’s south of the border CAntina at 132 Davie (between Jervis and Broughton) - The owner/operators used to run (but not own) Bin 941/942. The food is great, the wine list small but tasty and it has the best array of Tequila and mezcal I have seen recently. It’s small, and it fills up fast after about 6:30, but the wait is worth it IMO.
Second, a new little hole in the wall on Cornwall, next to Vera’s Burger Shack, called The Taco Shack. Serving MExicali tacos, quesidillas and burritos, it’s not a sit down kind of place, but the fish tacos are fantastic.
    Enjoy

Try Tacos Mexico Rico on West Pender. It’s great! Mouse and Bean on West Hastings is pretty good too.

Mexico Taco Rico is one of the better ones for sure. The Mexican Flag at teh mouse and bean is pretty tasty as well.

Also worth a trip when you are in New Westminster is Ole Ole Mexican Deli 831 Twelfth Street, (604) 540-7435. As for other places we’ve been to, Andales is … meh. For lunch, Red Burrito (2 locations, Broadway near VGH and on Commerical) has good tacos, I found the burruritos not nearly as good, but still better than Taco Del Mar the next block down (though a Taco Del Mar fish taco make for a quick and nice light lunch). The VGH corridor of Broadway is also soon to be home to “Gourmet Mexican” thanks to “Cilantro and Jalapeno” which is still undergoing a reno before opening up (at least when I peeked through the covered up window this morning).

The list is getting longer, thanks! Now I’m starving :p

We’ll be in New West this weekend so there’s an option and I’ve seen the Red Burrito on First/Commercial, we’ll have to try it out. We had Taco del Mar the other day and it wasn’t too shabby.

I second the Mouse and Bean. There is also La Casita in Gastown on Cordova and Abbott.

I’ve lived in Texas and San Diego, and the thing I miss most (well after Trader Joes and Central Market) is the TexMex.

I’m going to try out a few of these places, thanks folks.
