Amazing Race Mini Vancouver Edition
How come I haven’t heard of this before? How come no one told me? Being a complete and total Amazing Race nut the idea of a mini Vancouver version gets me all excited.
Navigate the Streets is ‘Canada’s Original Urban Race’ and has been operating every year since 2003.
…a challenge in which teams of two traversed the city, reaching a series of checkpoints by solving clues. Players [are] encouraged to use the Internet, mobile phones and digital cameras [globe&mail]
The race takes place this Sunday, Sept 17th which is also the premiere of the Amazing Race’s 10th season on CBS/CTV. And with clues such as “The only place in the city where you can watch adult 35mm movies. South of Science World,” in 2005’s race, I’m sure it’s a good time.
I had a sneaking suspicion that something like this was taking place soon as recently, while browsing Craigslist, I found this job posting:
I need someone to walk up and down Robson as a casual walker for a couple hours. As you walk, you hand an pamphlet to people who ask you a certain question. You don’t give out these pamphlets unless they ask you the right question. This is for a scavenger hunt. Get $25 for a 2 hour shift walking up and down Robson Street [craigslist]
It could be completely unrelated but yeah, you WOULD have to pay me to walk up and down Robson for several hours. hehe.
Regardless, it’s happening this Sunday (and you can still register) so keep your eyes peeled for racers around town and next year, I’ll try to be one of them.

The Bell City Chase is similar and more cross-Canada (i.e., more Canadian cities have it) - this is the first I’ve heard of this particular race.
What would be neat is if the Vancouver race were broadcast (like the City Chase is) on a local channel, or on CityTV, or something.
How do you think *I* felt when I found out about it *yesterday*?? It was created by Tim Shore, the guy behind Beyond Robson and the other Fresh Daily sites.
Weird, it only popped up on my RSS reader (for Beyond Robson) this morning - stupid internet - yay BR dude!
I wish I could find out about & enter these things in a timely manner (including the Bell Chase in the spring) I’m always the last to know :p I’d quickly enter for this Sunday but we’re both feeling under the weather and it may be tough to conjure up the entry $$.
