Pacific Centre Renovations
By now, anyone walking up and down the north end of Granville (or cruising through Pacific Centre) would have noticed the construction. A big gaping hole on the side of the building is the latest addition to the mall’s renovations. The corner of Granville and Dunsmuir will be the new home of Holt Renfrew - hence the bright pink scaffolding. The building is being completely gutted to create a new facade and turn what used to be a food court and multiple levels of stores into one monster store. Here’s an update on the progress so far…
The new food court will be conveniently located in the middle of the centre in the area commonly referred to as the Bay wing and will feature 13 food retailers… a larger seating area, 597 seats, teak and Corian furnishings and upholstered “restaurant style” banquettes. It will also feature new upscale washrooms including a family and mothers room… In the meantime, in order to facilitate the final phase of construction and the relocation of current food court retailers we will be closing the existing food court in two phases.
The first group of food court retailers - Orange Julius, Vina, New York Fries and Cafe Supreme will close at the end of the day, Wednesday, September 13. The balance of the food court, including the seating area will close at the end of the day, Wednesday, September 27.
Visit the Pacific Centre Re-Development page for more info and try the store index page to find out where any of your faves might have moved during this process.

Have you heard anything about Wal-Mart coming to Pac Centre? A couple of people have told me Wal-Mart is headed there, but I just can’t envision Wal-Mart and Holt’s in the same mall.
No idea, really. Although given the raucous the SE Marine drive proposal caused, I think we’d be hearing the screams loud n’ clear if there were any discussion about opening a box store right downtown.
