Your Final Fantasy

Final Fantasy: Owen Pallett

The day after winning the 2006 Polaris Music Prize Owen Pallett [wp] and his musical project Final Fantasy rolled into town and performed a sold out show on the University of British Columbia’s campus. Final Fantasy is one of Lydia’s favorite bands right now, so she had bought tickets when they first came out and informed me that I too would be going. I’m glad I did, since the show was very good and it’s impressive to see how someone gets such a full musical sound out of one violin and a number of loops.

Also impressive was his covers of the Bloc Party’s “Modern Love” and Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy”.

I’ve uploaded one of Lydia’s favorite songs off of his first album to my Vox blog [jks] so if you’re interested in what one man, a musical vision and a violin with loops sounds like you can take a listen there.

Overall the show was good, and opener Bob Wiseman [wp] showed just how much fun someone can have with a video camera and Apple’s iMovie. I’m looking forward to his completion of the song with over a hundred instruments.

One of what? Sorry maybe I missed an implicit question in my post.
