I thought I would wander off the Thanksgiving/Halloween path and see what else is going on in the city this month. Then I remembered something. Growing up in Surrey, it was alway the reason the neighbourhood would be lit up beautifully with Christmas lights and candles (not in pumpkins) in October. Diwali [wiki] is the Festival of Lights.

The City of Vancouver (who only started celebrating Diwali in 2004) has a booked up it’s events calendar with tons of ways to celebrate Ocotber 16-22, 2006 [city of vancouver].

Various community centres around the city are hosting arts & crafts, dances, workshops and film nights, visit the Vancouver Celebrates Diwali 2006 website for more info.

Outside of Vancouver, Surrey is hosting Diwali Show 2006 this Sunday, October 8 at the Surrey Arts Centre.
