2028 Olympic poll really, really dumb
Question: Why did Tourism Vancouver waste their money on this dumb poll?
First off, Ipsos Reid polls don’t come cheap. If you’re going to go with the Cadillac of pollsters, you better have something important to find out. But the poll only asked 390 BC residents. This hardly seems like a big enough sample size for the entire province (of over four million people). So… not only did they waste money, the poll itself seems flawed.
Second, of course very few people are going to support another Olympics before we’ve even gotten past our first one. And all the media coverage about cost-overruns can’t have helped - even though most of those costs shouldn’t have been included in the Olympic budget. The RAV line and Sea to Sky highway improvements weren’t just needed for the Olympics. 2010 just became a convenient deadline for these infrastructure projects when we won the event.
A World’s Fair or a World Cup could also be some great events for this city. But the idea of a Vancouver-Seattle 2028 Olympics deserves some exploration. Hopefully, this poll result won’t scuttle it.

It just sounds fancy :p
I’d be surprised if they bought an entire poll. My wild-ass guess is they bought a few questions on an omnibus survey. (And from my understanding, small though that number sounds, properly modelled it should give you a margin of error in the single digits.)
