Best Parks Besides Stanley

My last post inspired me to ask - what are you favourite parks aside from Stanley Park downtown (if it even is one of your faves).

Remember, here at Metroblogging we represent the greater Vancouver area so let us know if you’re in love with Deer Lake Park (aside from its natural beauty, it hosts wicked outdoor concerts). Or what about Queen’s Park in New West? There’s Buntzen Lake in Annmore, and Campbell Valley Park in Langley. Then Derby Reach in Walnut Grove or a slough of others that are not on the tip of my tongue right now. From playgrounds, to hiking trails, dog friendly, to just naturally breathtaking - where do you go on a sunny (or rainy) afternoon to become one with nature (or toss a Frisbee around)?

I guess I’d have to say Deer Lake Park. It’s a good hike, I do like the concerts, and I did get married there. I don’t get out there that often, though.

For me, it’s Barnet Marine Park just off the Barnet Highway. They have ruins, seashells, crabs, sand, a long beach with semi-secluded bits. Where I spent many a childhood summer afternoon.

In terms of close-to-Vancouver camping, I absolutely adore Rolley Lake, out in Maple Ridge/Mission. Its a great park, making you feel isolated, but really is only 45 from the Albion Ferry. Love it!
