Viva Vancouver

Having just returned from another trip to Las Vegas it’s definitely very nice to set foot back in what many of us call home. I’m utterly surprised at how everytime I visit Vegas there seems to be more and more locals who want to visit Vancouver. At first I simply thought the cabbies or general employed population down there were simply being nice to the tourists.

A local invited some friends of mine to check out their Bodies exhibit they had in town which is essentially the Body Worlds 3 exhibit at Science World. Maybe I’m a little behind, but that was a truly defining moment in which I realized how recognized Vancouver is becoming.

So with Vancouver slowly shedding it’s “No Fun City” persona, what are your favourite places that you’re so proud of you always show tourists or recommend to out of towners?

Always Stanley Park (the city views, the beaches, the mountain views etc). We actually have company from Germany in town right now will take them to the Okanagan and get the heck outta the city :p

The Vancouver Police Museum is an interesting, if creepy, place. The display in the old (real!) autopsy suite is spine-tingling, especially when you realize that thousand of bodies came through there over the years…. icky fun.

Aside from the obvious must-sees, I often take guests out to the UBC Museum of Anthropology (European friends are especially fascinated by the native art) and up to Lynn Headwaters park for a walk on the Lynn Loop trail. (There’s a huge tree on the switchback trail that always amazes people from outside the province).

If I take people to Granville island, I usually go there from Yaletown via the Aquabus (from the foot of Homer, since it’s a longer ride). Also, I take them there for breakfast, when it’s quieter, and we pick up some live crabs and oysters from the Lobsterman for dinner at home.

Oh yeah for sure, the MOA is a great one and also Granville Island, my in-laws (from the mid west) love it.
