He, um, was, ah, resisting arrest…
Anyone remember the LA riots from a few years back?
The LAPD seems to be up to its old tricks, as reported on the MetroBlogging Los Angeles site by Sean Bonner. A seemingly clear-cut case of police brutality was recorded on a cell phone camera and shared with the world via Youtube.
The Pivot Legal Society in Vancouver has been busy for years keeping our own cops on their best behavior (and making sure they get slammed in the media and the courts when they do misbehave). I honestly have no way of knowing whether our cops are better or worse than police in other cities in this respect. Since policing demands candidates who are more physically aggressive and imposing than average, it seems that the best one can hope for is that police brutality remains the exception rather than the rule.
