Wind, rain and brown water: the day after

Last night I predicted brown water for Vancouver residents [mbv] and today my water is a brownish colour. So the tip I got from a city employee that went through a few people before getting to me was accurate. Hopefully it’ll clear up by later today, but for now I’m glad that I’ve got a container of water in the fridge. It might not be all across town but at least where I live downtown it is, though it doesn’t run brown if you fill up a glass with it you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Meanwhile the CBC is reporting at least 125,000 people are still without power along the South Coast, and about 40 people had to evacuate their homes in West Vancouver because of the threat of falling trees [cbc]. I’m actually quite shocked at how much damage the storm did, and then how quickly it just fucked off and left us alone. According to Global News the winds got up to hurricane level, which seems to be over stating things, but then that’s Global.

Hopefully everyone is okay, and the majority of us can be thankful that all we’ve got to deal with is a little brown water.

We were watching Seattle news last night, I think Q13… their weatherman likes to yell a lot, it amuses us… anyway - they had a couple places around there with 90mph winds. That’s um, pretty hefty.

Brown water in the downtown area for sure. Very gross, but this happened last spring when we had one day of heavy down pours. Cleared up in a few hours.

I’ve seen reports of 120kph winds in some areas, and not just from Global. Nasty stuff.

“If it’s brown, drink it down. If it’s black, send it back.”

I just got sent a boil-water advisory. Also, here’s a list of schools that are closed due to power outages… yeah I know, 2:14pm is a little late to be posting this.

Yeah, we just got a notice from the city at work. I think it’s a bit late for them to be sending stuff out, I mean I’ve had brown water all day and they just get around to it now?

The fact is they knew that this was going to happen yesterday, so why is late afternoon the first we’re hearing about it?

Here is a wake up call that the GVRD and Vancouver Island needs to get better prepared for an earthquake.
CBC’s News Article about the big windstorm that hit the Lowermainland. Looks like complete towns and communities got cut off from the world due to mother nature.

A sure sign that the Lowermainland is FAR from being able to handle an earthquake or tsunami for that matter!

Hear hear! If turbid water can cause fights and pandemonium on the sidewalks of Costco, I don’t even want to think what kind of barbaric state Vancouver could fall into when the big one hits. *When.*
