Meetup Dec. 12: Choose your own Adventure!

So in previous meetups, we’ve gone to locations as exotic as Stanley Park, Kits, The Drive, and even . . . Coquitlam!

But never before have we asked you, our loyal readers, to provide your input. So here’s the deal: this time, you nominate the meetup location. The date is set: Tuesday, Dec. 12th. The time will be somewhere around 6:30, mostly depending on how far it is from my house so I can get there in time.

Post your nominations to the comments, and do it quickly (I’ll try to make a final pick by early Wednesday).

Rules: locations will be judged on the basis of fun, creativity, and ease of accessibility (near Skytrain, for example, is a plus). A place with food is strongly favoured. Decision of the judges is final. I’d say that there’s a small prize for the winning nominator, but I’m bad about actually giving out these prizes in a timely fashion. So there’s probably a small prize for the winner.

You know you’ve wanted to do it all along, so now you can go ahead and tell me where to go. Thanks!

I think you guys should meet at the new Thai restaurant around the corner from your place so you can give me a review of the food :-P

I don’t where to go. It’s gotta have good food and be easy to get to for us non-car people. All past choices have been great. I trust your judgement :p

Here are 4 decent and interesting places around the Kingsway and Willingdon intersection in Burnaby. For non-car people, they’re all around 1.5 to 3 blocks from either the Patterson or Metrotown Skytrain stations (post-transit walking directions in parentheses).

    1. Abdul’s Sharwarma, 4500 Kingsway (at Willingdon), Suite 1695 (Crystal Mall). Little local secret hole-in-the-wall place on the outside of Crystal Mall. Good variety and very tasty. A foodie’s blog entry about it: http://chowtimes.com/2006/05/shawarma_from_abduls_on_kingsw.html. $6-$10. (Metrotown Station, 1 block north through the mall to Kingsway, 1-2 blocks (depending on where you exit the mall complex) west on Kingsway to Crystal Mall; OR Patterson Station, 1 block north to Kingsway, 2 blocks east on Kingsway to Crystal Mall.)

    2. Saffron Indian Cuisine, 4300 Kingsway (at Wilson), Suite 5. http://saffroncuisine.ca/ Portions not very large, but delicious, rich and filling. $10-$16. (Patterson Station, 1 block north to Kingsway, 0.5 blocks east on Kingsway.)

    3. Pho Century Vietnamese Cafe & Restaurant, 4429 Kingsway, Suite 14 (IGA/Shoppers Drug Mart strip mall at Kingsway & Willingdon). Good food, nice quiet atmosphere. $8-$12. (Patterson station, 1 block north to Kingsway, east 1.5 blocks & across Kingsway, into the strip mall.)

    4. Taisho Japanese Restaurant, 15E-4700 Kingsway (Metropolis at Metrotown, below Silver City). Decent but otherwise unremarkable, though they have some unusual specials (e.g. mango-wrapped sushi). $10-$16. (Metrotown station, into the Metropolis mall, below Silver City.)
