Joyeux Noel

caillou.jpgThe last person on my shopping list is my 6 year old niece. She’s in French immersion and is well above her reading and writing level in the language. I’d love to get her a book for Christmas but I can’t find one anywhere. Chapters doesn’t have any kids books in French, and I had no luck at Book Warehouse. I was told to try Sophia Books on Hastings so maybe I’ll have some luck there – is there any other place in town to get a kid’s book in French?

    Try KidsBooks on West Broadway…
They’ve got a small but good French section.

A great place for kids books is the book store in Edgemont Village. They have a selection of French books for kids in the age range your looking for.

    Kids Books in the Village
    3040 Edgemont Blvd.
    North Vancouver, BC

    Good luck!

Sophia Books (Hastings, very near SFU Harbour Centre) is a fine bookstore, but remember, it’s a multi-lingual bookstore. So while there’s certainly a French section (by far larger and better than what you’d find at Chapters, Book Warehouse, etc.), it also has a Spanish section, an Italian section, a Japanese section, and so on. French books will be only a small part of the store, and children’s books will be only a small part of that. So while you should certainly go to Sophia and have a look, if you can find a specifically French language bookstore, it would be even better. However, I have no idea where one is, if there’s even one in the Vancouver area.

Good luck with the search, and remember that there’s no harm in buying a book above her level, (e.g. instead of a “kid’s book”, why not a “young adult’s book” instead?)

Awesome! I’ll probably try all of the above. Thanks for the advice :)
