Cheapie Saturday - Grocery Hall of Fame

Grocery Hall of Fame - Grocery Museum
Open 10am - 2pm Saturdays @ 6620 No. 6 Road Richmond BC
(604) 278-0665

Not too many people know about this place but it’s often found listed among Vancouver museums. It’s essentially a collection of really neat stuff from a bygone era. It’s housed in a building made to look like a general store from the 20’s and contains stuff like old marketing posters, pop bottles, cans, signs and other cool trinkets.

Although it is open Monday to Friday, Saturday is when there are some tours. Make sure to call in advance they have been known to close earlier or not open at all depending on weather and other circumstances.

It’s located on Richmond resident Bill Spaner’s property who’s been collecting this stuff for years. If you go be sure to ook out for the curator. I’m not sure if he’s still around since it’s been a couple of years since I’ve gone, but 90+ year old Calvin McLeod is a total hoot to talk to.

It’s definitely interesting to check out and get warped back to a time before Superstores and Safeways.

Thanks for writing about this. I wasn’t even sure if it’s still around.

Now to make plans to get out there. :)

Maybe I should have called and found out first…it’s been awhile since I’ve been out there as well, I just found the details whilst cleaning up an old agenda of mine.
