Vancouver’s guide to killing time at work: the ’80s edition
In honour of my own post about Corey Haim from The Lost Boys [mbv] I’m going to present you all with a few ways to pass the time at work on this Monday in Vancouver, and they’re all going to be ’80s style.
* I always enjoyed the old classic arcade game Burger Time. So the fact that the CBC has a flash game called Sushi Samurai [cbc] that’s an exact copy of Burger Time is super exciting. Being made with flash it’ll play on pretty much any computer with a fairly recent web browser. It’s the perfect way to pass sometime while reliving the 1980s’ at the same time.
The Whitecaps, Expo ‘86 and some Canucks fun after the jump.
* Okay so other than the fact that Bob Lenarduzzi [wp] is an ’80s icon having played on Canada’s World Cup team in 1986, the Olympic team in 1984 and both the Whitecaps and then the ‘86ers and is now the Whitecaps Chairman, this barely qualifies as ’80s. Still tthe Whitecaps had a great year this year to win the USL Playoffs. We are the champions… my friends. Also here’s some video from the Whitecaps’ Peter Bearsley scoring two goals against the Seattle Sounders in1983 [yt].
* A video tutorial on how to play the Death Cab For Cutie song “Expo ‘86″ [yt].
* Lastly though he’ll always be remembered for 1994 let’s not forget that Trevor Linden joined the Vancouver Canucks as a draft pick in 1988. This is part one of a three part series on his career that you can watch on YouTube, and thus it’s the early years including draft day. Sadly it’s rare these days that a player would be so closely associated with a single club (though he did spend a few years at other teams). Yzerman’s retired, and Mario’s trying to sell the Penguins. Let’s all enjoy Linden while we’ve got him.
