Getting a good smoked meat sandwhich in Vancouver

I enjoy smoked meat a great deal. Granted the best smoked meat is from Montreal [mbm] but there’s a few places around Vancouver that you can get your fix. A place I recently discovered is Phat [dh] a jewish deli in Yaletown. Though it’s hard to call a resturant in the trendy Yaletown a find, I’m quite glad to have found it or been directed there by my girlfriend.

Not only does it tie in nicely with a bet with my girlfriend that I can go a week without eating anything fried [jks], but its near the new comic books store I’m going to start frequenting [es] which is also in Yaletown.

The sandwich selection is very good, and I enjoyed my smoked meat on soughdough (pictured). They’ve also got some hot meals like soups, french fries and the like. The fries, I am told, are good. The pickles are very very good.

Any other suggestions for good deli sandwhiches around town? I’m a fan of Frenchies as well, but the girlfriend doesn’t like it despite the amusing 50s’ Quebecois diner theme.

It’s been many years since I’ve had a sandwhich there, but you might want to try Kaplan’s (Oak between 41st and 42nd). Otherwise, you could try (not kosher-style, but actually kosher) Omnitsky’s (Cambie at 43rd-ish).

The venue for a past Metroblogging Vancouver meetup: Siegel’s Bagels, in Kits and Granville Island. (The Metroblogging Vancouver meetup was at the Kits location.)

Montreal Smoked Meat is their specialty, but their other items are delicious too, and having the filling in a bagel is nicer than bread, I do think.
