Fibrefest International 2007
If you’re into the fibre arts thing like I am (I crochet and sometimes knit) you won’t want to miss the fun little festival at the Tradex in Abbotsford. It’s a bit of a drive from Vancouver, but definitely worth it. I’ve gone and volunteered the last two years and will definitely be attending on one of the two days it’s happening - Friday and Saturday, May 11th and May 12th, 2007.
The Fibrefest includes lots of small business owners and farmers with all different types of natural fibres for sale - fibres from llamas, sheep and bunnies mostly. There’s plenty of animals to see and touch and they use the animals in the fashion show. If someone is wearing a hat made from llama wool, the llama will walk down the isle with the human model. The last two years I was there, a lady had a golden retriever and she collected the dog’s hair and spun it into yarn and made a beautiful scarf out of it. It felt soft and didn’t even smell like dog (I checked!)
There are also a few workshops offered during the event. I haven’t attended any yet. I’ve just gone to the trade show and the fashion show…and petted the farm animals.
I’ll probably put another post up closer to the event. I hope to see you there!

I went to this two years ago and took the Nuno Felting class with Ayami Struck - really fun! But best of all were the alpacas - how soft!!
