Vancouver (and Canada) gets its first Kwik-E-Mart!

I went to Digg.com recently and pulled an article off Yahoo: “7_elevens become Simpsons Kwik-E-Marts“. They mentioned that there were 11 Kwik-E-Marts in the US and 1 In Canada.

I did a search on the 7-11 website, and lo and behold, the single one in Canada is in Coquitlam.

The picture here is the artist’s rendering, but I’ll pull the family out and get some live shots!

Why did they have to put in the middle of nowhere? Why not do this for a store in the city?

    Michael: Ha ha!

They put it 2 miles from my house. You must have lousy Stonecutters connections.

BTW, as of Monday night, the hoarding was only half-up, and the “Kwik-E-Mart merchandise” was a lonely shelf of Buzz Cola (I bought one) and another shelf of Krusty-Os, plus some Squishee-branded Slurpee cups.

The clerk took time to complain to me that the company spent its money on decorations rather than employees. She told me she’d been working there for two years without a raise, at which point I began to wonder why the heck she was still working there.

Because finding jobs is easy and fun.

Jeffery: there’s finding jobs, and then there’s finding jobs that are better than “clerk at 7-11.”

There’s a lot of help-wanted signs out there right now. I suppose our friend the clerk (and seriously, I wouldn’t much want her job, but the open resentment of the Kwik-E-Mart makeover rapidly transitioned from bathetic to unintentional comedy) may feel stuck, but when so many retailers (and other companies) are desperate for labour, I can’t help but feel that she has not explored her career options with any kind of diligence.

Hey, she talked to me about this, so we know she’s articulate and outgoing. Add motivation, and she’d be a pretty good realtor!

I saw the name tags, but they didn’t seem to say wanna-be Apu.
