Here at Metroblogging Vancouver we do a fair amount of food blogging [mbv ^[2]], but we’re certainly not what you would term a food blog.  Increasingly though people who are in the know, meaning my fiancee Lydia [iatl ^[3]], are telling me that there’s some pretty good local food blogs that I should be paying attention to.  I have to admit I was a bit skeptical, I like writing about food but from my (granted limited) experience of food journalism most of it’s lazy, repetitive and cliche.

Surprisingly though there are some really good Vancouver food blogs, and after the jump I’ll talk about two.

Vancouver Slop [vs ^[4]] is the one that I’ve been told I have to, have to, visit the most.  Granted the use of the word “WASSUP” scared me a little bit when I first landed on the page, but it’s actually a food blog that seems kind of written just for me.  I mean a continuing feature on local hamburgers [vs ^[5]]?  What’s not to love?  The fact that White Spot is included in the burger round-up is a sign that the author isn’t looking to score points for only going to the coolest of the cool locations, but rather where the actual good food is.

Vancouver Ethnic Eats [vee ^[6]] is another blog worth checking out.  There’s a very specific mandate at work for the author of the blog and that’s to highlight the ethnic food of Vancouver.  So no White Spot then?  It is a really good idea though, and works well as a sort of world cuisine travel guide for people who don’t actually want to travel outside of the lower mainland.  Special mention for the layout is deserved, since it’s nice and clean and uncluttered.
