Zero Crash Month
Since I don’t ride a bike or own a car my chances of fully participating in ICBC’s Zero Crash Month activities are slim. However it does impact me since I take the bus and walk everywhere to get around.
From Oct. 1 to Oct. 31, 2006, individuals, communities and businesses can participate in Zero Crash Month by committing to drive, cycle or walk safely. [zerocrashmonth]
The website for the campaign features a Super Dave type dude, Troy Thunderton. (Oddly enough, Super Dave was discussed in length at our Metblogs Meetup last night [mbv])
Troy teaches us what to do/not to do and drives home the fact that if you play along on the fancy little site you could win a car… oh yeah and possibly save lives.
You can enter individually (to win the car) or sign up your community to win road safety grants.
The winning community will receive recognition for their achievement in media announcements and on the Zero Crash Month website.
Companies can also attend workshops and will be rewarded for their participation.
Aside from the cartoony…ness of the website, it actually offers up some interesting info and stats: The top crash sites across the province, your community’s crash rate, crash and injury predictions and safety tips.
I’ve blogged here before regarding traffic in the lower mainland and in particular the Patullo Bridge [mbv] which is listed as the #3 crash site in Surrey. I could list off a couple more, including the trouble spots in Vancouver - but that would ruin the game for everyone.
