Was the city closed yesterday?

First off, a very Happy New Year to all.

Seeing as how my work was closed yesterday, as well as being my birthday, we decided to head downtown to spend a little time. What I couldn’t get over was the number of retail stores that just weren’t open yesterday. I work in the tech sector, so I can kind of understand that, but the fact that retail shut down as well was a bit of a surprise. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that those who work retail don’t deserve time off – they certainly do – it was just…weird.

We walked both sides of Davie between Granvile and Jervis, and probably found about 20% of businesses not open. Maybe it was just the Davie Village that was recovering from the New Year’s celebrations. Who knows.

Anyone else find this yesterday?

I noticed the same thing, especially with regard to restaurants.

That is, until I ventured into Pacific Centre to buy a new pair of shoes, and could barely even crawl through all the people in there — I was tempted to climb up on top of their heads and start traveling that way.
