One down, two to go

After watching the excellent final of the World Juniors yesterday, I can only hope that the Olympic tournaments next month will be as exciting.

Even late in the game yesterday the Russians showed very little sign of giving up. They played hard right up till the very end. As has been mentioned before, junior hockey can in some ways be more exciting than watching professionals for the simple fact that they still have something to prove. It truly matters to them whether they win or lose. Which is not to suggest that the NHL players won’t give a damn next month in Turin, they certainly will. The juniors just seem to play with more heart.

That said, congratulations to all of the players involved in the final game, Canadian and Russian. Thank you for an excellent game that was played exactly like it was anticipated.
