Vancouver needs a good Jazz Station

Vancouver needs a good Jazz Station. It’s too bad that the CRTC decided that Vancouver needed another Hip hop boo bop rap trash station to compete with Z. I thought that there was some hope when the Clear came. Unfortunately, they decided to compete with CHQM in playing Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Diana Krall and Rod Stewart ad nauseum.

Don’t get me wrong… I like those artists, but I’m craving for a good Jazz Station here in the Lower Mainland that will not only play good Jazz, but will educate me in what’s good, what’s mediocre and what’s downright ugly.

I wonder if a station like that would make any money.

In the meantime, Jay recommended kplu.org to listen to and I’m quite pleased. Now if we get a local station to do the same… that would be just wonderful!

Agreed. Actually the station that debuted as the Beat could have been a jazz station. That was one of the applications to the CRTC when they announced that the frequency was available. However, they felt we needed an ‘urban’ station more. Uh, yeah, thanks again, Ottawa.
Now it’s either KPLU or KWJZ out of Seattle, or any of a number of online sources.
