ExplorASIAN / Asian Heritage month

It’s the 4th day of May and I still keep writing “April” because I’m desperately trying to live in the past. But boot me into the present because I was just reminded that May is Asian Heritage Month across the country and here they have a cute moniker, calling it ExplorASIAN.

The ExplorASIAN blog is Vancouver-centric, listing events in great detail as they come up. I’m so frustrated that in the middle of May, when I will be out of town, the coolest seminars will take place and they are –

* Judy Fong Bates & Janice Wong readings at the VPL,
* Paul Yee interview at CBC, and
* Evelyn Lau’s “Writing for Healing” seminar at the YWCA Hotel

There are more than literary events on the chockful schedule like movie screenings, seminars about Zen and feng shui, and surely kid-oriented events like karate and origami demonstrations.

So I browsed over to the Halifax Asian Heritage Month listings and they are the usual disappointment after the opening ceremonies and dance performances that occurred three days ago. No Meet-the-Authors with anyone I recognized. Oh well.

We just saw David Suzuki at the CBC RadioOne book club – this was also a part of ExplorASIAN – very cool!

    Hi Miss604/Rebecca,
You might have noticed that I posted this about ExplorASIAN the day you posted about David Suzuki. So I clicked on the link you supplied and clicked some more at the CBC site to come upon Paul Yee and that lead me to ExplorASIAN and Asian Heritage Month. AHM kind of sneaks up on you in Vancouver and Halifax alike. You indirectly reminded me! =D
