Anyone else here want a B&J….?

There’s something about an inventive combination of,
“milk chocolate cashew Brazil-nutbutter ice cream with macademia nuts covered in white and dark fudge and a milk chocolaty swirl”
that cannot be overcome even with three globs of uniform single flavours such as pistachio, strawberry, and rosewater from your local gelato shop.

A check at the Ben & Jerry’s website turns up scoops shops in Ontario (6), Quebec (5), and Alberta (2). My second-to-favourite ice cream shop, Cows, is only in Whistler.

Are Vancouverites (perceived to be) too health-conscious to be a good market?

It amazes me when an American-based store skips Vancouver and starts up in Toronto or Montreal instead. Okay, okay, they are larger cities but having lived here for a year, I feel like we (collectively) have the disposable income for, say, a Sephora store in our posh Pacific Centre or Oakridge Mall.

I’m not worried: this city keeps constantly changing.

Ben & Jerry’s is a perfectly acceptable scoopery, and I have happily eaten ice cream at their Haight-Ashbury store in San Francisco, but there is no way their flavour options are even half as clever as La Casa Gelato’s.

way way way back when, there was a Cows on Robson (heading toward the west end, maybe at bute).

i’ve been to BJ’s on Cape Cod and Hagen Dazs on the Champs Elysee (i just felt like name dropping too :p) and still (to agree with Ryan) the selection at Casa Gelato is incomperable. (and so freakin’ yummy)

Gelato is better, most of the time, but you can’t have a milkshake or a sundae with gelato.

My name-dropping is confined to normal places like Calgary (Eau Claire), somewhere in Boston, and possibly in NYC and/or L.A. Will add, ooh, Toronto to the list.
Will go all the way east to Venable & wherever to check out Casa and *I was right* – Vancouverites prefer gelato….! (Haha.)
I don’t mind totally full-fat, totally dense ice cream that is well-made.

‘totally full-fat, totally dense ice cream that is well-made’ that sounds good and it makes me picture something chocolate immediately (and crave it as well) :p i would generally prefer that over asperagus, avacado or lavender gelato :-| but to each his/her own.
