MacFourth.com
As I was Googling for the website or phone number of the Sushi place on my street (because walking downstairs is such a chore sometimes) I came across a website devoted entirely to my block!
MacFourth.com is an up to date (last update in May 2006) directory of businesses on Fourth Avenue in Kitsilano, in the couple blocks East & West of Macdonald St. (2600 – 3000 blocks). The site’s been put together by Tamara of Drexoll Games (a geeky, gamey staple in the city), and not only provides a map and directory of the area, but also a panorama photograph of the businesses on each side of the street, including contact information and links to their individual websites and profiles.
While the area of “MacFourth” isn’t a registered Business Improvement Area (BIA), there is an area on the site that lists the websites for a number of other areas in the city that have been put together by BIAs, including:
Kitsilano 4th Ave BIA – www.kitsilano4thavenue.com
Robson Street BIA – www.robsonstreet.ca
South Granville BIA – www.southgranvillerise.org
Mount Pleasant BIA – www.uptownvancouver.ca
Vancouver Chinatown BIA – www.vancouver-chinatown.com (site currently down)
Yaletown BIA – www.yaletowninfo.com
Point Grey Village BIA – www.pointgreyvillage.com
Check out the sites for your neighbourhood, or use the sites to discover a new neighbourhood in the city that you weren’t familiar with. Who knows, you may just stumble upon the number for your local sushi takeout joint.
Cool! It looks like the China Town site is back up :)
Another good source/directory is DowntownVancouver.com[dtv], where you can do a street-by-street search
You forgot Marpole’s BIA website: http://www.marpoleonline.com/
I’m glad you found the site useful! I’ve heard from a number of the local merchants, who wouldn’t otherwise have a web presence, that it’s been great exposure for them. I love to help my neighbours, plus it’s just fun to roam around the ‘hood and take photos. ;-)
Hey Jen, thanks for the heads up on the metroblogging site! I didn’t know it existed ’til I read your blog!
I love local sites… I’ll have to check out Tamara’s next!
