Summer in the City concerts in North Vancouver

Blackthorn at the Civic Plaza, North Vancouver

This photo is of Blackthorn performing at the North Vancouver Civic Plaza in the first of the city’s Summer in the City Concert Series.

For several weeks in the summer, North Vancouver has free live music on Fridays, from 7 to 9 pm. The first of the concerts (Blackthorn) is already over, but here is the schedule for the next three weeks:

  • 21 July — Colleen Savage & Friends (Jazz & Blues)
  • 28 July — The Sweetpea Swing Band (Swing)
  • 4 August –Don Stewart (Motown & Jazz)

The venue is the lovely Civic Plaza at Lonsdale and 14th Avenue, which has a fountain-waterfall-reflecting pool, steps for seating, and is bordered by buildings like the Civic Library, City Hall, and the Eighties Restaurant.

If you live or work in North Vancouver (or even if you don’t; it’s not that far away), free live music in a relaxing open-air space, flowing water and all, is a good way to end your work week. Drop by, grab a seat, relax, and enjoy.

(I have to thank BIFF, which meets in the Eighties Restaurant on Fridays, for my finding out about this concert series–I couldn’t help but pass the stage on my way to BIFF’s first birthday last Friday. Sadly, the restaurant proved to be rather soundproof, and I couldn’t hear Blackthorn’s music from inside, though I could at least see them through the windows. I did linger outside to catch a few songs, though, and plan to listen to at least part of all the concerts to come.)
