Summer in the City concerts in North Vancouver 2

A short, mostly-photo follow-up to my earlier entry about North Vancouver’s Summer in the City Concert Series.

Colleen Savage and Friends (21 July 2006)

21 July: Colleen Savage and Friends–smoky, sultry jazz and blues.

Sweetpea Swing Band (28 July 2006)

28 July: The Sweetpea Swing Band–lively, very dancable swing that got a few in the crowd, especially children, on their feet.

This Friday is the last of the concerts. Don Stewart (Motown & Jazz) is performing (7-9 pm). The series ends just as it’s picking up steam. With each week, the crowd at the free Friday outdoor concert grows, with early birds arriving before the start time to stake out prime spots on the plaza steps or benches, or to make land claims via deck chairs. While the type of music tends to attract an older audience (the early birds in question), younger people and children are well-represented too–an all-ages show indeed.

This post is disastrously lacking in Gilbert & Sullivan references. Please fix it ASAP.

    North Van in summertime,
    Has concerts so sublime.
Each Friday eve from seven to nine,
    Fridays from seven to nine.
    The Civic Plaza gets loud,
    The music delights the crowd–
    A source of innocent merriment!
    Of innocent merriment!
