Driving in Vancouver with no traffic

Having played a lot of video games and a lot of racing games I’m fairly used to driving the digital streets of such world class cities as Tokyo, Paris, Berlin and even Seattle however I have never been able to explore Vancouver in such a racing game. That is until now.

ToCA Race Driver 2 features Vancouver as seen in this video (don’t worry it’s early in the video). Science World and the Skytrain are both featured though I’m not sure how much more of the city is driveable.

A race down the Lions Gate Bridge would be some kind of awesome.

From the looks of that video, you just get to drive one or more versions of the Molson Indy track. The TOCA game series has been a “closed-course” game (a la Gran Turismo) rather than a free-form driver like, well, Driver, or Midnight Club, or the part of Grand Theft Auto where you’re in a car.

It’s unlikely we’d ever see a Grand Theft Auto type game in Vancouver, because they’re set in fictional cities, at least since the GTA3. Yeah, the Indy Track looks like what you’ll be able to drive.

Still it’s kind of neat to see the Skytrains overhead.
