Phone Numbers and Hip Threads

So today March 14th is a pretty eventful day for consumers. First of all the one I’m excited about: Wireless Number Portability. It’s been in the talks for awhile after it’s approval by the CRTC back in December 2005. Well today the major mobile phone companies are required to have it available. Bell, Rogers / Fido, and Telus will have it live for people in BC, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec.

Ready to give your carrier the boot? It’ll also probably make the wireless market more competitive, especially giving leverage to those customers who are not on contract.

The other “big deal” is the grand opening of Urban Outfitters on Granville Street. Which Jefferey covered awhile back here when they first erected their storefront sign. I’m sure savvy shoppers will be snatching up the prime merchandise.

So what do you think?

Urban Outfitters – Another late arriving fad store to Vancouver? or hurray! something to look forward to?

Wireless Number Portability – “Good riddance Rogers/Fido/Telus/Bell — Here I come Rogers/Fido/Telus/Bell”? or … ?

I gave up my nice phone number (last 4 numbers spelled something cool and meaningful) to switch from restrictive Bell to Rogers.

Urban Outfitters is not a fad. More like, *finally* it’s arrived in Vancouver. As much as I’ve totally grown out of overpriced “collegiate”, I used to check out the store in Toronto because there wasn’t one here. May smug-hipster live on!

I just checked it out on my lunch hour. I was surprised to see the selection of Jelly shoes. Seriously eighties footware. Yikes. They have a nice selection of framed art upstairs and a bunch of books written by internet people I recognize. Also, they have a big stack of Craft Magazine upstairs.

Deals are starting to pop up from the wireless carriers as they try to gain new business by luring people with new hardware.

I believe you can get discounted hardware if you call and speak with a Rogers rep. Also today only if you switch you can get a free phone from Virgin Mobile
